The Twelve Days of Christmas – Day Eight
On this day in 2000 singer-songwriter, Kirsty MacColl was killed in a boating accident in Mexico. She and her sons were diving with a group in Cozumel, Mexico in a specific diving area that watercraft were restricted from entering. As the group was surfacing from a dive, a speeding powerboat entered the restricted area; MacColl was hit by the boat and killed instantly. In 1987 MacColl recorded the Christmas song “Fairytale of New York” with The Pogues. The song has frequently been voted the Number One Best Christmas Song of All Time in various television, radio and magazine related polls in Ireland and the UK. The Twelve Days of Christmas – Day Six
On this day in 1997 an episode of the children’s television series Pokémon titled, “Dennō Senshi Porygon,” aired in Japan. The episode induced seizures in hundreds of children. In total, six hundred and eighty-five viewers were taken to hospitals; two children remained hospitalized for more than two weeks. Due to this, the episode was only broadcast this one time and was banned worldwide. Today we have the song Come On Santa by The Raveonettes.

In 1971 The Partridge Family released an album of Christmas music titled A Partridge Family Christmas Card. It was the best selling Christmas record that year. Today we have the song Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree from the Partridge Family Christmas Card LP.

From 1953 to 1963 Kay Martin and Her Body Guards was a popular nightclub act performing in Las Vegas and Reno casinos. Their best known recording was the 1962 Christmas album I Know What He Wants For Christmas… but I don’t know how to wrap it! On this day in 2007 Eux Autres, Fishboy and Tullycraft performed for a handful people at the Dept of Safety in Anacortes, WA. The venue was freezing cold and all three bands spent most of that evening upstairs drinking together. We’re kicking off our Twelve Days of Christmas countdown with the song Another Christmas At Home by Eux Autres.
