The Twelve Days of Christmas – Day Eight

December 18, 2010 at 2:40 am

On this day in 2000 singer-songwriter, Kirsty MacColl was killed in a boating accident in Mexico. She and her sons were diving with a group in Cozumel, Mexico in a specific diving area that watercraft were restricted from entering. As the group was surfacing from a dive, a speeding powerboat entered the restricted area; MacColl was hit by the boat and killed instantly. In 1987 MacColl recorded the Christmas song “Fairytale of New York” with The Pogues. The song has frequently been voted the Number One Best Christmas Song of All Time in various television, radio and magazine related polls in Ireland and the UK. Today we have Fairytale Of New York by The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl.
