On This Day…

On this day in 1968 The Kinks released their sixth studio album The Village Green Preservation Society. The album was assembled from songs written and recorded over the previous two years, and it was the last album by the original quartet. Bassist Pete Quaife quit the group in early 1969. Today we have an interview with Robert Smith talking about the single and an acoustic version of Let’s Go To Bed. Happy Friday!

On this day in 1970 Luna 17 successfully landed on the surface of the Moon. The Soviet spacecraft carried a vehicle that roamed the Moon’s terrain and performed experiments. The Luna Program officially launched 24 spacecraft between 1959 and 1976, although more were launched. Those that failed to reach orbit were not publicly acknowledged at the time, and not assigned a Luna number.

Dean Wareham (from the band Luna) played in Seattle last night, where he performed an entire set of songs from the Galaxie 500 catalog (it was great). Today we have Hefner performing a cover of the Galaxie 500 song Oblivious.
