15 years ago today (in 1995), Courtney Love threw candy at Kathleen Hanna and punched her in the face backstage at the Lollapalooza festival in George, Washington. Nine days later, Love described the incident on an AOL message board post:
“I was speaking to Beckster…Eric comes up behind me “Give some candy to Ratface, she’ll Flip!” He said I turned quickly and she was 2-3 feet from me smugly glaring -“BLECCCCHHHH” I screamed threw the candy in the air and at her, every witness there saw her attack(“”) me first, I do believe eventually my fist-ahhhhh-met her Rathead and it
was orgasmic- too bad the security-oh yeah “MY” security? I’m Axl Rose now? We have a co-tour mgr. who was there…”
Hanna pressed charges and Love ultimately plead guilty to assault later that September.

This was the very first west coast tour for Guns n’ Roses. The band ended up hitchhiking part of the way to Seattle when their van broke down on I-5. Unfortunately, only 13 people were in attendance at the show, and GnR only received $50 of their $250 guarantee. Most of the remaining shows fell through, and Axl referred to the trip as The Hell Tour. Today we have In the Summer by The Fastbacks.

On this day in 1987, R.E.M. played two consecutive acoustic sets at McCabe’s Guitar Shop in Santa Monica, CA. “This One Goes Out” was one of four unreleased songs performed by just Michael Stipe and Peter Buck at the first show. Stipe enjoyed the recording so much, he kept a cassette copy of it and insisted that it be used as a b-side. “This One Goes Out” eventually appeared on the b-side of the “It’s The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” 12″. Today we have the live version of This One Goes Out performed at McCabe’s Guitar Shop.
