Tullycraft Tuesday
This version of Wish I’d Kept a Scrapbook was sent our way some time ago by Master Track from Boston, MA. Master Track also contributed a version of the song “DIY Queen” to the Tullycraft tribute album Wish I’d Kept a Scrapbook. If you’ve recorded a Tullycraft song, or know someone who has, send it our way and we’ll feature it on the blog.

On this day in 1982 Capitol Records released Destination Unknown by Missing Persons. The song would be the first single from the band’s Spring Session M album. Years later, the group’s lead vocalist, Dale Bozzio, would serve as an obvious influence to Lady GaGa. Here is a live performance of Destination Unknown recorded in San Francisco in 1982.

On this day in 1926 A. A. Milne’s first collection of stories about Winnie-the-Pooh were published in the UK. Today we have You’re A Dancing Bear by Patrick Elkins.

On this day in 2002 Tullycraft played an 18 song set (perhaps our longest ever) at the Sunset Tavern in Ballard, WA. Chris broke five guitar strings during the performance, which I think may stand as a personal record. Today we have a live recording of the song Wild Bikini.

Yoko Ono will be in Reykjavik, Iceland to light up the Imagine Peace Tower tomorrow night. The tower is lit each year from October 9, John Lennon’s birthday, through December 8, the date he was shot. The Tower consists of 15 searchlights with prisms that act as mirrors, reflecting the column of light vertically into the sky. On a clear night the light is said to reach 13,000 feet.
On a personal note, Liz and I were married in Reykjavik one year ago tomorrow, so we like to think the light also marks our wedding anniversary. Today we have the song Tin Anniversary by The Gazetteers. Happy Friday!
MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1959 the Soviet space probe Lunik 3 successfully transmitted the first ever photographs of the far side of the moon. Though the pictures were rather poor by later standards, the historic, never-before-seen views of the moon’s far side caused excitement and interest when they were published around the world. Today we have Dream About The Future by The Apples In Stereo from the album Travellers In Space And Time.
MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1988 the movie Return of the Killer Tomatoes! was released in Australia. A sequel to the 1978’s Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, this story was set 25 years after the events of the first film. Today we have the song A Life More Ordinary by the Scottish band The Felt Tips.
