Indiepop Holiday Mix Tape

Angry Moofah

Today we have perhaps the perfect inclusion for anyone’s Holiday Mix Tape, Portland’s purveyors of Christmas revenge rock – ANGRY MOOFAH AND THE JOINTS. The band just released a holiday album titled The Thought Counts – currently available on Bandcamp. The 17 tracks pull no punches when it comes to holiday breakups, unwanted gifts or the lingering question: “Will you have me on your Christmas mix tape?” Please enjoy today’s excellent song Mix Tape.

Where better to start our Indiepop Holiday Mix Tape than with MONNONE ALONE (aka Mark Monnone – formerly of The Lucksmiths). Yesterday Mark released a free download of the song Everywhere At Once on Bandcamp. Enjoy! Stay tuned – more Indiepop Holiday Mix Tape songs will follow in the days to come.

MP3 of the Day

On this day in 1986, New Order played at Winter Gardens in Malvern, England. The audience was treated to an encore jam of the Velvet Underground’s ‘Sister Ray’ with the Happy Mondays. The encore was a nod to the Joy Division / Section 25 performance at the same venue six years earlier. Today we have Perfect Pit from The Perfect Kiss 12″ released in 1985.

MP3 of the Day

Hey! The band iji is looking for some help releasing their 10th full length album (wait… their 10th full length album?! – the Beatles only released 11 studio albums). That seems kinda crazy to me, but I guess we can blame Garageband for this sort of thing. If you’re into the mellow, Caribbean vibe that iji delivers, check out their Kickstarter page and contribute to the cause. Today we have a song called Drums From Thunder from the currently unreleased iji album Yerself. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

MP3 of the Day

Fishboy was in Seattle last night and they performed their entire new album (minus one song) Classic Creeps. It was a terrific show. If you haven’t heard the new Fishboy album you can pick-up a copy from HHBTM Records. Today we have the song Adrian Simmons from Classic Creeps. Enjoy!

MP3 of the Day

On this day in 1925 the New York Sun published a story about the discovery of life on the Moon. The discovery was supposedly made by Sir John Herschel, perhaps the best-known astronomer of his time. The article described a population of winged humanoids and fantastic animals living on the Moon. This, of course, was an elaborate hoax and some readers doubted it from the beginning. But many believed the article and the New York Sun’s circulation increased dramatically. The story was not discovered to be a hoax until several weeks after its publication and, even then, the newspaper did not issue a retraction. Today we have a demo version of the song Circles ‘Round the Moon by Nana Grizol.
