MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1995 Some Velvet Sidewalk, Cub, Stinky Puffs, and The Red Stars Theory performed at the Velvet Elvis Theatre in Seattle. Today we have Mousetrap by Some Velvet Sidewalk.
MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1977 The Cramps, Suicide, and Devo each played two sets at Max’s Kansas City in NYC. Devo were billed as “De Vow” on the flyer. Today we have a live recording of Girl U Want by Devo from 1981.
MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1985 the Minneapolis based record label Twin/Tone, released the Jonathan Richman and The Modern Lovers album, Rockin’ & Romance on LP & cassette. Despite, in my opinion, being one of Jonathan Richman’s best records, Twin/Tone never re-issued the album to CD. Today we have the song Vincent Van Gogh from Rockin’ & Romance.
On this day…
15 years ago today (in 1995), Courtney Love threw candy at Kathleen Hanna and punched her in the face backstage at the Lollapalooza festival in George, Washington. Nine days later, Love described the incident on an AOL message board post:
“I was speaking to Beckster…Eric comes up behind me “Give some candy to Ratface, she’ll Flip!” He said I turned quickly and she was 2-3 feet from me smugly glaring -“BLECCCCHHHH” I screamed threw the candy in the air and at her, every witness there saw her attack(“”) me first, I do believe eventually my fist-ahhhhh-met her Rathead and it
was orgasmic- too bad the security-oh yeah “MY” security? I’m Axl Rose now? We have a co-tour mgr. who was there…”
Hanna pressed charges and Love ultimately plead guilty to assault later that September.
Happy 4th of July!
MP3 of the Day
On this day in 1994 The Softies wrote a song in Crayon’s tour van in the parking lot of a laundromat just outside of Burlington, Vermont. For a brief period it rained really hard that day. I’m from the northwest, so I’m used to rain, but this was like no downpour I’d ever experienced. Today we have a live recording of the song Jen & Rose wrote that afternoon called Empty Patches. Happy Friday!
